My services were costed into an art council grant application to provide background support. Once funding was awarded we worked together.
In the application the artists detailed my services simply for "joint mentoring" - more specifically they wanted me to help them make the most of the opportunity to take their careers forward. This meant getting some structure into their marketing strategy and helping them to get noticed by the right people. It was about positioning, branding, how they presented themselves and the project.
Brief outline of the project
Curator at Pound Arts proposed a joint show named GROW as she felt the artists work had a relationship - their work is inspired by local architecture. The project included an exhibition, art trail, artist talks and a panel talk at Pound Arts, to discuss wider regional arts issues.
"Having worked with Abbi before, I was keen to bring her on board with this latest project primarily to help with the marketing of events and a publication. Two well spaced sessions left time in between to complete actions and have plenty of progress to review. What Abbi brings to the table is clear and structured strategy, and clarity to the message. Although the project is already professionally presented, Abbi helps elevate that further and can isolate areas that need tightening up. She's good at being objective and taking a broad overview, which is hard to do yourself when you're right in the middle of something. She backs up the face to face mentoring with useful written feedback which is structured as a timeline to help with prioritising tasks. This support has really enhanced the way the project is presented and will ultimately help us to make the most of the opportunity."
